My question is if the export should always sound like it does in Ableton or this purely still comes down to perfecting my mixing skills. Here is a screenshot of export settings as well: I can even add a little utility, compressor, EQ, and limiter, to the track and it sounds great in Ableton but the export on the other hand is never as loud or lacks general warmth.Īdmittedly, I've only been making music in Ableton for a year, but I've read Tarekith's Guide to Mixing and Mastering and I've definitely learned a lot from reading that but I still hear a drastic difference when playing a song in Ableton vs playing the export. At first I thought I still needed to hone my mixing skills (and that may very well be the case) but the same thing happens even I have one track and therefore don't need to mix it with anything.
In Abelton, the songs sounds fresh on both my monitors and headphones but sounds dull and lifeless when I play the exported wav file. But to keep it simple, if you are burning to CD, make sure you are exporting a WAV with 44.1KHz and a bitdepth of 16 bits. Now FL Studio can output in a great many different formats. Hopefully this tutorial gave you an idea what kind of tools you can use (and how to use them) to master a song in FL Studio. What the program will do is take the PCM data out of the WAV container, and wrap it in the Redbook Audio container. Export the song once again to WAV using highest quality settings, except set the WAV bit depth to 16 bit as this is standard in mastering because you can’t burn 24 bit files to CD. But you can't burn WAVs straight onto a CD. Unless its made by some dodgy hack of a programmer or something. So, assuming your WAV file contains 44.1KHz PCM audio, the CD encoding program shouldn't re-encode. If one were to transfer an audio CD bit stream to WAV files and record them onto a CD-R as a data disc (in ISO format), the CD could not be played in a player that was only designed to play audio CDs. WAV is a data file format for computer use.
The commonality is that both audio CDs and WAV files have the audio data encoded in PCM. Audio CDs do not use WAV as their sound format, instead using Red Book audio.
